Deskripsi: India merupakan salah satu negara merdeka yang demokrasi dan telah merasakan perdamaian dan kebebasan dari penjajahan. Namun, kemerdekaan dan kebebasan India kiranya tidak secara langsung mampu menghilangkan bentuk – bentuk penindasan terhadap kaum perempuan di negaranya. Tradisi dan kebudayaan yang masih bersifat patriarkal mengakibatkan posisi perempuan India seakan berada di ujung tebing yang curam. Diskriminasi dan segala bentuk kekerasan telah menjadi hal yang lumrah dirasakan oleh kaum perempuan di sana.
