Abstract

The children in the orphanage come from diverse family backgrounds. They are placed in orphanages due to family financial reasons. Children who come with family problems are forced to face the stigma of being orphans. This fact then triggers various psychological problems, including depression. The assessment process uses the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method, individual interviews, and observations at the Aisyiyah Islamic women's orphanage, Yogyakarta. Based on the results of the assessment, four teenagers were depressed, so intervention was needed to reduce the level of depression. The intervention was carried out using expressive art therapy. The results of the intervention showed differences before and after being given the intervention, with reduced depressive symptoms experienced by each participant.
