Top Level Management Commitment Supports the Success of Hospital Management Information System Implementation

The implementation of new technology will cause many challenges at the beginning, such as high implementation cost, technology problems, and resistance to users. The role of top level management has a strong influence and affect the enthusiasm of other colleagues. The aim is to explore the developer and user perceptions of top level management roles in supporting the success of the Hospital Information System (HIS) implementation process to achieve optimal service. The research design used qualitative method with a case study approach, participants were developers and users of HIS at Muhammadiyah Hospital Bandung. The participants selection used purposive sampling technique, the data collection technique used in-depth interview procedures, and the data analysis process used thematic content analysis. The result showed 1 theme that shows the strong commitment of top level management which is an important factor in supporting the successful implementation of HIS, with 3 sub-themes, namely the main role of leadership, collaboration with a common vision, and competent totality of human resources. This study concludes that HIS can minimize the complexity of health services, the successful implementation of the HIS is achieved by joint commitment from various parties, most importantly the active participation role of top level management in the implementation process.
